Time flies bye…

Wow, it’s been such a long time since I updated my blog and it has been a long time since I actually sat down and read a book. For me that is pretty strange.

I’m now sitting on my bed, tired of my internship, with my laptop on my lap while I’m typing this message. Outside it’s warm and people are talking. There is also music playing and people are singing along. I guess everyone is in carnival mode. You probably are curious (or not) what I’ve been doing last week, so relax & I will tell you.

Tuesday: We arrived in Curacao. Everything went smoothly and we were picked up by a men who lives here and is a friend of the teacher of our school in the Netherlands. He brought us to our *house*. Our *house* has five rooms and there are now living three other people with us. We all have our own room including our own bathroom. We do have to share the kitchen and toilets, but that’s no problem.
Around noon we went to the supermarket and we found out that everything was expensive. We bought five things and it cost us a small fortune. In the evening we went to a little café and ate something light. (the food in the airplane was okay, but I had a little bit of a tummy ache the next couple of hours).

Wednesday & Thursday: I took my laptop with me and we went to a Internet café in the city (Punda). There we called a couple of car rentals and we tried to get a student car. We called & emailed a lot of people. Almost all of them didn’t had cars for us or had a car but then at the end of February. On Thursday we were lucky and a guy had a car for us. He would bring the car to us on Friday. In the evening we went to the city again and ate a delicious pasta dish at a restaurant with Dutch influence. It’s called ‘De Buren” and actually thinking about it, I think it’s a Dutch restaurant. Very nice people and the food and drinks were really good. Later that evening we went to a Dutch disco, but I didn’t really liked it. I rather go to a disco or go out where local people are too. I don’t want to go where the Dutch people are, but I want to find out about the culture of Curacao and the way of living here. My uncle said that a lot of students go back to the place they live and they don’t know anything about the culture of the people in the city/country where they interned. I don’t want to be one of those people. I will not be one of those people.

Friday: We got the car & right away we went to the beach. Love the beaches here. The sand is white and the water is blue. BLUE! In the Netherlands the water is blueish, kind of green. Ugh.

The people here are all very nice and kind. If you don’t know the way & ask, they will give you the right directions without any attitude. They always say bon dia or bon tarde when you arrive somewhere. So kind.

Tomorrow at 12.30 after my internship (I will tell you all about that too….) my weekend starts. We are going to Mambo Beach and probably just sleep in, because seriously I am tired. TIRED.

You will hear from me soon & have a great and safe weekend. Bon weekend!
Nina from sunny Korsou.
Ps: I'll try to update once a week and hopefully I can show you some more pictures next week!

The beach is so pretty!

It's so sad that people would intern in a country and go back not knowing anything about the culture.

Beautiful picture! It's so weird to think we are now living so close hehehe. I live in Venezuela...and people over here goes to Curacao all the time (but I haven't).

Anyway, I think you will have a great time, specially if you intend to know the culture and people from Curacao. They are very sweet people :)

Glad to see you alive and where you are planned to be! :) The beach looks gorgeous - and I am envious since I live at a place where 16 is the new "normal" for now. Boo to winter!

Anyhow, I completely understand the want to not be "one of those people" who hang out with their own people in another country instead of soaking up the culture! Enjoy yourself :D

The place looks so beautiful! I wish I were there. It looks so warm. It's been so cold where I live the past week or so. I could use some warmth and sun!
