My Feelings:

Description:
Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire... fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil... until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.

Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don't exist), and they're shocked she survived. They're even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quickly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of New England has chosen Pearl's family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King's feast -- as the entrees.

The only problem? Pearl's starting to feel the twinges of a conscience. How can she serve up her new friends—especially the cute guy who makes her fangs ache—to be slaughtered? Then again, she's definitely dead if she lets down her family.
What's a sunlight-loving vamp to do?

My Review:
Drink, Slay, Love has been on the wishlist for quite a long while now. It sounded fun and original & I always wanted to try a book written by Sarah Beth Durst. Her other YA  books, Ice, Enchanted Ivy and Vessel are also on the wishlist and therefore when I saw Drink, Slay, Love in the American Bookstore I had to buy it. And so I did, but my high expectations weren’t met.

Pearl is a character I liked. She’s funny and snarky. Her thoughts about humans and how stupid they are, were pretty hilarious. Evan is awesome. So sweet and right from the start you could tell he had his own secrets. All the other characters, the family, Bethany, Zeke and Matt were all very interesting. Especially Zeke and Matt, they were great! Pretty hilarious.

The plot was original. When Pearl decided to tell her friends about being a vampire their reactions were ridiculous. Seriously! But, I know it’s supposed to be all fun & nothing too serious. I love that it’s a standalone, there are way too many series out there.  But (Yes, there is a but!)  the whole climax went to fast and was (for my taste) super short. It could have used a bit more pages.

I didn’t fell in love with the book or the writing, but I still want to try and read Sarah Beth Durst other Ya books. Any recommendations which one I should read first?

Melissa (Books and Things)  – (18 april 2013 om 12:28)

i actually wanted more with this one too. Wouldn't have minded if it was a series tho. :)

Oh and do try Vessel by her. Loved that one.

Her books are also on my wishlist, but I think I will read her other work first. I'm very excited to try Ice & Vessel.

Pearl does sound like a great character :D

I just read Vessel, and while I had a couple of issues with it, I was really impressed by the setting and mythology that Durst created. I think you'll like that one!

I want to read this too since I've read two of Sarah Beth Durst's books. You can try Ice, it was the first of her's I read.

Andrea  – (19 april 2013 om 06:42)

I liked it though I can't really remember the ending now. One day I'll pick up another by her.

Brandi Kosiner  – (19 april 2013 om 06:46)

The plot and main character does sound good, but sorry it didn't have that extra to make you really love it.

This is the only one of Durst's books I've read but I had a lot of fun with it because I wasn't expecting anything serious from it. It's too bad you didn't love it as much but I'm glad you liked it enough to give her other books a try.

YA Book Queen  – (22 april 2013 om 10:36)

I remember thinking this was a fun book - Pearl is definitely amusing. I still think Vessel is Durst's best novel, though - you should check it out :)

Nice honest review!
